Bringing All Programs Under the Greater Firelands Name

At Greater Firelands Soccer Association, we believe in strength in unity—and now, we’re proud to take the next step in that vision.  As part of our continued growth, we’ve brought all of our soccer programming together under one powerful identity: Greater Firelands Soccer Association. From recreational leagues and competitive teams and elite player development programs, every player, coach, and family is now part of one unified soccer family.

What This Means for Our Players and Families

Whether your child is lacing up cleats for the very first time or training for a future in high-level competitive soccer, they’re doing it as part of a single, united organization. No matter the level, every player benefits from:

  • A shared club identity
  • Consistent coaching standards
  • Clear player pathways
  • Access to development opportunities
  • A connected, supportive soccer community

A Unified Look, A Shared Purpose

Along with this new structure comes a unified look that reflects the core of who we are:

  • Blue for trust, ambition, and unity
  • White for precision, clarity, and integrity
  • Black for strength, resilience, and determination

Together, these colors unite our programs—from Sofios Park to state tournaments, from beginner sessions to competitive showcases.

Guided by the Lion

The Dutch Lion, is more than a design—it represents the strength, leadership, and tactical intelligence that shape our club’s playing philosophy. Like the lion, we play with purpose: focused, strategic, and confident.  It reminds us that greatness isn’t just about winning games—it’s about developing leaders, thinkers, and teammates.

FORTITUDO IN UNITATE - “Strength in Unity”

We’ve always believed that soccer is about more than just the game. It’s about community. It’s about building character. And now, it’s about doing all of that together under one name, one crest, and one purpose.  No matter where you start or how far you go, you’ll always belong here.  Welcome to Greater Firelands Soccer Association.

This season, Greater Firelands Soccer Association is proud to announce a new partnership with the New London Soccer Club , expanding recreational soccer opportunities for youth in the New London community. We are grateful for the tremendous support from local families and community sponsors who helped make this partnership possible. Together, we are building pathways for more young athletes to learn, grow, and develop a lifelong love for the game . Please join us in giving a warm welcome to our newest recreational players from New London—we cannot wait to see you on the field this fall! A Conversation with Recreational Director Heather Smith To learn more about this exciting collaboration, we sat down with Heather Smith, Recreational Director for Greater Firelands , to hear her perspective: Q: Heather, how do you feel about this new partnership with the New London Soccer Club? A: I couldn’t be more excited! Partnering with New London opens another door for kids to experience the fun and benefits of recreational soccer. Our mission has always been to make the game accessible for as many families as possible, and this partnership is a big step in that direction. Q: What does this mean for the New London community? A: It means more opportunities. Kids will now have the chance to join a program that emphasizes development, teamwork, and sportsmanship, while still keeping the fun and family-centered feel that recreational soccer is all about. We’re thrilled to support New London families and give their athletes a place to play and grow. Q: What are you most looking forward to this season? A: Honestly, seeing the new players in action! I love watching kids discover their confidence and passion for soccer. It’s always special when we can welcome a new community into our programs, and I can’t wait to see the New London athletes out there competing and smiling this fall. This partnership is just the beginning of Greater Firelands’ commitment to expanding recreational soccer across our region. With each step, we’re growing not just teams, but a supportive soccer community where every child has the chance to play. Welcome to the family, New London! Let’s make this season unforgettable.
